Pop music has produced some of the most interesting vinyl in existence — which might surprise collectors who think of it as the commercial mainstream and nothing more. The major labels put significant resources into pop pressings, which often means excellent quality; the commercial importance of pop releases meant that colored vinyl, picture discs, and special editions were used as marketing tools more aggressively here than in almost any other genre; and the sheer volume of pop vinyl pressed over the decades means there’s always something to discover.

Pop vinyl records collected here span multiple decades and substyles. Classic pop from the album-rock era, new wave and synth-pop records where the production was as considered as any fine art, bubblegum releases that are more fun than their critical reputation suggests, and contemporary pop on colored vinyl where the object itself was clearly part of the release strategy.

Colored pop vinyl in particular — and there’s a lot of it — tends to be visually striking and often shows up on shelves as display pieces alongside being played. The condition and visual quality of each pressing is noted in the individual listing.
