Collection: Jazz

Jazz collecting and vinyl collecting have always been intertwined in a way that’s different from other genres. Partly it’s because so many of the definitive jazz recordings were made during the LP era, when the format and the music were developing in parallel. Partly it’s because jazz rewards repeated listening in a way that makes ownership feel right — these are records you return to, not just play through.

The jazz vinyl records in this collection span the genre’s recorded history: bebop and hard bop LPs from the 1950s, the free jazz explorations of the 60s, fusion-era records from the 70s, and contemporary releases from artists who are keeping the tradition alive while pushing it somewhere new. Major label recordings sit alongside small-label and self-produced releases that circulated in small quantities and are now appropriately difficult to find.

Original pressings from the classic jazz labels — Blue Note, Impulse, Prestige, Verve — appear in the collection when they come in, graded honestly and priced for what they actually are. Reissues are noted as such, with information on the pressing origin where it’s relevant.

Colorful Vinyl treats jazz with the seriousness it deserves. Browse the full jazz collection to see what’s currently available.
